Candlestone Sold
An investment group of Steve Leach, John Durkee and Cathy Farr purchased the Candlestone Resort and surrounding property from the late Joe Duthler estate in early July 2008. Investment spokesman Steve Leach said, “We are thrilled with this opportunity to take over the Candlestone property. The facility has so much potential and we have already begun to make the massive facelift to Candlestone”.
Part of the improvements slated is the expansion of a 300 seat Banquet & Conference Centre adjacent to the existing food and beverage operation.
“We immediately secured the management experience of Mike Husby to assist us in turning it into a four star golf resort”, Leach went on to say.
Husby is also finishing the plans for remodeling and up-grading the golf course for the new group. “I have a tremendous opportunity to take a good golf course and make it a great golf course” Mike added.
"Timing is Everything"
September 15, 2005
Those are the words that ring so clear from Joe Duthler, the owner of Candlestone in Belding, Michigan just outside of Grand Rapids. "When I heard Mike Husby was available, I knew the time was right to go after him", Mr. Duthler the long time Grand Rapids auto dealer said. Candlestone was started back in the early 1970's and has long been considered one of the finest golf courses in Western Michigan. "I need to increase revenue in all three income areas of the facility" Mike Husby said. "My mission is to make Candlestone a place where people want to go to and be part of, when I do that, then the 196 residential lots and 66 condominium sites that surround the golf course will become reality. I must admit I have never seen a facility that has so much potential".
Mike Husby Golf took over management of the resort in early September of this year.
Candlestone is a 280 acre parcel that features a award winning 18 hole golf course, 25 newly remodeled motel rooms, a 200 seat restaurant and a conference room that seats 175. The facility is located 25 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids, 15 minutes from Rockford and 8 minutes from Greenville, Michigan.
2004 Great Year for The Loon
Even though the spring was full of poor whether and gas prices climbed to records highs, The Loon Golf Club beat the odds and had a great year according to managing partner Mike Husby. "With the golf industry in Michigan losing ground, we were able to have substantial increases this year" said Mike. "Mike has put together a great staff for us and the momentum he created in 2003 carried over to 2004 according to Mario Trescone, President of TBK who owns The Loon. "He has so much experience in every phase of golf management we are fortunate to have Mike leading our investment" Trescone went on to say.
